IN THE NEWS: When financial pressures leads to murder
In my home town of Orange Park, there have been two murder suicides this winter which many in the community have speculated might have been a result of financial pressures due to the recession.
An Orange Park man took the life of his daughter and then himself. Neighborhood observations of the family note marital problems and that his wife moved out with some of their children.
Clay Today also notes that this tragic incident,
The apparent murder-suicide is similar to an incident that occurred two months ago on Fleming Island, where Jerry Whitlelaw shot and killed his two children, 11-year-old Katie and 16-year-old Kevin, as they slept in their beds before taking his own life.
Another neighbor said she thinks the two deaths are linked to the recession, which she believes has created a great deal of depression, fear and anxiety.
“People are getting desperate,” Barbara Koranda said. “They’re getting financially desperate. This used to be stuff you only heard about in Jacksonville.”
Since financial pressures weigh heavily on marriages, at what point do you think people should get help for their financial, career, relationship issues?
