Featured Cause: KONY 2012 with Invisible Children
You can help make Joseph Kony famous. Who is Joseph Kony? He is a parent’s worst nightmare and the International Criminal Court’s number one enemy. The non-profit organization, Invisible Children, and thousands of volunteers have been working for an end to Kony’s terror for the last eight years and have launched a 2012 campaign to bring Kony’s atrocities to light.
About Joseph Kony
Joseph Kony is a guerrila group leader and head of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Uganda, Africa. Kony and his rebel group have engaged a violent campaign to establish a theocratic government based on the Ten Commandments throughout Uganda and claims to communicate with spirits sent from God.
Kony’s campaign of violence isn’t just limited to Uganda; he’s taken his army of over 60,000 abducted children who are forced to kill, maim, and kidnap the people in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, and South Sudan. As a result of this rebellion, he’s displaced more than 200,000 people since 1986 and has been indicted for over 30 crimes of war and against humanity by the International Criminal Court at the Hague in 2005.
About Invisible Children
Invisible Children is an organization that seeks to rescue the children of Uganda and Africa and bring Kony’s atrocities to the public in order to capture, arrest, convict, and end Kony’s violence against the people of Africa. Kony has kidnapped, raped, tortured tens of thousands of children and forced them into sexual slavery and into committing violence and murders for his campaign of power.
Through organized events, political rallying, and the power of social media over the last eight years, Invisible Children seeks to bring the horror stories of Kony’s ‘Invisible Children’ to the attention of Americans and the world in order to garner public and political support in order to end Kony’s reign of terror. This organization and their wonderful group of volunteers have rebuilt schools, created jobs, and built an early warning radio network to protect villages from attacks. They have raised funds and organized youth to create a program called TRY to support the children and systematically end Kony’s war.
Make Kony Famous
So far, the KONY 2012 Campaign and Invisible Children has received the attention and support of President Obama, politicians, and American troops to remove Kony from the battlefield. Kony has since learned of the campaign and has changed his tactics in avoiding capture. Now is the time to continue the efforts to capture Kony. The Ugandan army needs the resources and training from the U.S. Government. The U.S. Government needs to know that the AMerican public is certainly interested in investing their resources towards stopping Kony’s atrocities.
The KONY 2012 campaign is targeting a diverse group of 20 culture makers and policy makers to spread the news and bring Kony to justice. They’ve involved George Clooney, Oprah, Bono, and other public figures to inspire and empower American citizens with simple tools to demand the government to respond to this problem.
You can get a KONY 2012 action kit for yourself to actively participate in a global cause that will set the world ablaze with awareness and inspiration to act for a world free of Kony’s violence and for a world where parents and children can sleep peacefully without the fear of being forced to kill for one man’s unbridled quest for power.
